Umeboshi Sunflower Seeds

These Ume seeds are so unbelievably moorish it takes the slogan “Once you pop” to a whole new level.  They are so easy to make, delicious, and much cheaper than buying a pot of ready seasoned seeds from a shop.  Oh and they’re also incredibly good for you.

What’s not to like hey!

Ume or Umeboshi is a Japanese Pickled Plum. It is both incredibly sour and incredibly salty all at the same time and has unbelievably healing qualities to it. Umeboshi plums have a very powerful alkalising effect on our blood, urine and saliva so having some in our diet on a regular basis is great for keeping our system more alkaline.

These are particularly great to enjoy after you’ve had too much alcohol, sugar or meat and you feel like you’re system is a bit weak. Umeboshi will sort you right out!

INGREDIENTS
(Makes 1 Cup)

  • 150g Sunflower Seeds
  • 2 Tbls Ume Plum Seasoning

Method:

– In a frying pan or skillet on high heat add the seeds and start to toast them. Regularly stir them and keep moving them around with a spatula for approx 5-7minutes. If they start to catch or toast too fast turn the heat down to medium
– Then add the ume plum seasoning and keep stirring them so the seasoning is well mixed in and the seeds toast some more so they are dry and crispy when finished.

That’s it! Voila! Transfer to whatever container you are keeping them in.
